Hello world! I am a third grade teacher at Whitnel Elementary. Currently I live in Lenoir, North Carolina, where I have lived all of my life. My husband and I have been married for almost FIVE years; January 1, 2005 is our anniversary. We live in my grandfather’s old house, the house where my dad grew up. Lots of time was spent in renovating our lovely home. I graduated with honors from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, in May 2007. This is me and I hope you find enjoyment in what you read…
My Teaching…
This is the beginning of my third year teaching and I have just switched grades. The previous two years, I taught second grade at Whitnel Elementary, with a wonderful team of teachers. A new year and a new grade will be a challenge, but I’m up for it!
I am a product of the Caldwell County School System; attending Davenport Elementary, William Lenoir Middle School, and Hibriten High School. I recently received the honor of being named Teacher of the Year at Whitnel Elementary. This is an honor that I will always be proud of.
Currently, I am in my first semester of Grad School. I am super excited about what this new Educational experience holds for me and my students. Being a life long learner is what I’m all about!
My Loves…
I enjoy the little things in life, Reese’s Cups and colorful pens. Sharpie recently began marketing pens for the first time, not markers, but pens. If you haven’t tried them out, I suggest you go out and buy some because they are WONDERFUL! If you know me personally, you’d know that my favorite color is RED because of the truck I drive. As for holidays, I love Halloween and BIRTHDAYS, especially mine! With the love for Halloween comes the love of Horror films, my favorite being Michael Myers. Fall is also my favorite time of year. T-shirt and jeans weather is how I love to dress and finish out the outfit with a great pair of tennis shoes. On a fancier note, I am addicted to handbags. I love it when you get a really expensive one for dirt cheap! I love spending time with my family. One way I get to spend time with my mom is by experimenting with recipes because I also love to cook.
It may sound a little silly, but I love my classroom. After moving grades and classrooms, you realize exactly what you like and dislike about your room. My room is bright and colorful and inviting. Shell Silverstein is one of my favorite authors. Here is one of my favorite poems he wrote…
Boa Constrictor Oh, I’m being eaten By a boa constrictor, A boa constrictor, A boa constrictor, I’m being eaten by a boa constrictor, And I don’t like it – one bit. Well, what do you know? It’s nibblin’ my toe. Oh, gee, It’s up to my knee. Oh my, It’s up to my thigh. Oh, fiddle, It’s up to my middle. Oh, heck, It’s up to my neck. Oh, dread, It’s upmmmmmmmmmmffffffffff… Shell Silverstein “Where the Sidewalk Ends”
I am a CAROLINA Panther fan! Tailgating and wearing my favorite Panther jersey shows the true fan that I am. Whether they win or lose I will continue to support them! (I may have a tough year on my hands this year!) On October 25th, I get to go to a game with some friends.
Shopping should be my job! New York and Company, Kohl’s, Old Navy, and Victoria Secret are a few of the places that retailers love to see me enter their stores! I am a VIP and a Gold member of these stores. Clearance shopping is my middle name…70% mark down, then additional 50% off is how I spend my money!
Dislikes…
Snakes are EVIL…The Bible states this up in Genesis 3:14-15. I can’t even stand to look at pictures in a magazine of these horrid serpents. Mosquitoes also fit into this category. Basically, anything that is creepy crawly needs to keep its distance!
As much as I love to cook, I stay away from recipes that require coconut and nuts. The stringy texture of coconut makes me sick to my stomach! Nuts are okay on their own, but DO NOT ruin wonderfully, chocolatey, delicious brownies with nuts. They are better off in the garbage if you add something that is not necessary…That’s why it always says “nuts optional” in a recipe.
Noises that just get to me are the sound of fingernail clippers. The tick, tick, tick that is makes as it is snapping the ends off of nails drives me CRAZY! My dad always seems to need to use nail clippers when I’m around. I make Chris go outside to use them!
Looks…
My skin is almost the color of cinnamon in the summer time, but fades with the warmth towards the winder. I am a dark-haired, dark-eyed country girl. You will find me experimenting with my hair. Sometimes I wear it long, right now it is above my shoulders. My build is a little bit stocky, but not too boyish. Not too tall, but not too short, as Goldilocks would say, “I’m just about right.” I inherited my mom’s hands, but I think I got my ears from Dumbo…well that may be a little extreme. My ears a little on the enlarged side. I’m fairly fit, but that’s sliding away from me with the business of school (both my job and Grad School). Hopefully, I will find a balance to quit sliding backwards.
Acts…
Happy-go-lucky, enjoying life, free spirit, spontaneous all words that define a little part of me. If the weather is nice, I want to be out in it. I enjoy hiking, biking, running, golfing, or even just sitting on the porch reading. When the weather turns colder, I find myself enjoying movies, video games, cooking, and reading some more. I’m pretty much an all-around girl. My friends would say that I’m goofy. I like to be the “class clown” sometimes. Basically, I just want to enjoy being in the company of others and I want them to enjoy me as well!
